INFORMAL SETTLEMENTS
FIELD TRIP
In July 2007 a group of students from the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne joined with others from the Universitas Islam Indonesia to study an urban riverside kampung known as Sidomulyo-Kricak in Yogyakarta. Access to the community was negotiated through an NGO known as Yayasan Pondok Rakyat (People's Shelter Foundation). The 5 days of fieldwork were aligned with a Kampung Festival designed to celebrate the riverbank community and open it up to new ideas and outside contact. Some results are published here.
